Mullet — The 5,000-HP Street-Legal El Camino That Runs 6-Second Quarter Miles
Cleetus McFarland (real name Garrett Mitchell) took a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino — one of the last utility coupes ever made — and turned it into a twin-turbocharged, 5,000-horsepower drag monster that can still be driven on public roads. Named 'Mullet' (business in the front, party in the back — naturally), the El Camino runs a 9.3-liter SMX big block V8 that has ripped off quarter-mile times in the low 6-second range at over 220 mph. At the 2022 World Cup Finals, Mullet ran a 6.474 at 222.95 mph to win the elimination round. The car shakes so violently at launch that parts have literally flown off mid-run. The engine has blown up at least once at full thrust during Sick Week. Cleetus rebuilt it and came back faster. This is the El Camino that El Caminos dream about.
One of the fastest street-legal vehicles ever documented on YouTube, and the most famous El Camino in the world. Cleetus built his entire media empire around grassroots racing culture — he even bought an abandoned racetrack (the Freedom Factory) in Florida. His 'hold my beer' approach to professional-level drag racing is the definition of redneck ambition meeting real engineering.
