MonsterMax Drives in the Ocean — WhistlinDiesel's Gulf of Mexico Truck Send
In November 2020, YouTuber Cody Detwiler (WhistlinDiesel) did something nobody thought was possible — he drove his eight-wheeled, Duramax-powered Chevy Silverado monster truck directly into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Anna Maria Island, Florida. The truck, dubbed MonsterMax, floated on the buoyancy of its eight massive tires while its 750-horsepower engine churned it through open salt water. The stunt drew the attention of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the EPA, and the Department of Natural Resources — all of whom showed up to witness the spectacle. The resulting citation? A $70 fine for operating an unregistered aquatic vessel. The video pulled in over 7.5 million views. Sometimes you just have to drive your truck into the ocean to prove a point.
First known amateur-built monster truck to drive under its own power in the open ocean while being pursued by five separate government agencies. The $70 fine for the stunt may be the best dollar-per-spectacle ratio in vehicular history.
