Maggie Schofield's 64.9-Foot Cast-Iron Skillet Toss
Redneck Extreme SportsMost creative competition
The Fryeburg Fair is Maine's blue-ribbon classic, and its Ladies' Skillet Throw is a fixture: around 125 women a year send a five-pound cast-iron skillet downrange for distance. The fair's own record book lists Maggie Schofield at the top with a throw of 64.9 feet, the standing mark for an event whose history includes a 100-year-old competitor, the celebrated Mrs. Heath of East Conway, who opened the 2009 contest by throwing the first skillet from her wheelchair. Five pounds of cowboy cookware, sixty-some feet of Maine air. Respect the arm.
The standing Fryeburg Fair Skillet Toss record per the fair's own 2025 press release: 64.9 feet with a 5-pound cast-iron skillet.
