National Skillet Throwing Championship — Macksburg, Iowa
Rodeo & Ranch SkillsRanch skills
Every third Saturday in June, the tiny town of Macksburg, Iowa (population ~100) hosts the National Skillet Throwing Competition, where contestants hurl cast iron frying pans underhanded at a dummy made of sandbags topped with a basketball. Points are scored by knocking the head clean off from 30 feet away. The competition has been running for over 50 years and draws crowds that dwarf the town's population tenfold.
The longest-running national skillet throwing competition in the United States, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
