Egusquiza and Flake's 2.9-Second Team Roping Run -- First Sub-3-Second in PRCA History

Brothers-in-law Dustin Egusquiza and JC Flake rewrote the team roping record books on March 25, 2026, at Rodeo Austin with a clean 2.9-second run -- the first penalty-free sub-three-second team roping in the history of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. From the moment the barrier dropped, header Egusquiza had the steer caught and turned so fast that heeler Flake barely needed to ride before wrapping both hind legs clean. The previous world record of 3.2 seconds, set by Mason Appleton and Rance Doyal at the Snake River Stampede, had stood for less than a year -- but the psychological barrier of three seconds had loomed over the sport for decades. Breaking it required not just individual speed but an almost telepathic connection between header and heeler, two riders moving in perfect synchronization with a 500-pound animal that has its own ideas about where it wants to go. Egusquiza and Flake, who have been roping together as family for years, made it look routine -- which is perhaps the most impressive part of all.

First sub-3-second team roping run in PRCA history. Broke the previous world record of 3.2 seconds set less than a year earlier.
