The 4.4-Mile Rifle Shot — Nomad Rifleman's Extreme Long Range World Record

On September 13, 2022, in the high desert of western Wyoming, a team led by Scott Austin and Shepard Humphries of Nomad Rifleman sent a 422-grain .416 Barrett round downrange and waited. And waited. After 24.5 seconds of flight time -- during which the Earth literally rotated beneath the bullet -- Shot No. 69 punched through a 4-by-10-foot steel target, landing just 3.125 inches from dead center on the 8-inch bullseye. The distance: 7,774 yards. Four point four miles.

The longest confirmed rifle shot in history, requiring calculations that account for the Earth's rotation during the bullet's 24.5-second flight.
